Hemp cultivation has been illegal in the United States since 1937. In 2014, President Obama signed the Agricultural Act. Section 7606 legalized the cultivation of industrial hemp for purposes of research and tasked states departments of agriculture with creating a framework for farmers and institutions of higher education.
Enlightened Living and its partners are 2014 Farm bill compliant through a legal hemp program in the state of Colorado. Under this program the state of Colorado allows the growing, cultivating, and marketing of CBD hemp products. This programs also allows the sale, and transportation of CBD hemp derived products to be sold in all 50 states.
In 2016 the federal government passed the Appropriations Act. Section 763 prohibits any of the funds being distributed by this act to interfere with individuals in the hemp industry so long as the hemp is grown in accordance with the section 7606 of the Agricultural Act. It also prohibits interference with the processing, sale, and transportation of said hemp within or outside of the state in which the hemp is grown so long that it is grown in accordance with section 7606 of the agricultural act.
